Someone shared the below site which has a great checklist that breaks down creating a 72 hour emergency bag over the course of the year. I have made it one of my goals for this year. With all the crazy weather going on around us, I think this came in perfect timing. Anyone care to join me? Tonight I will be clearing out two back packs(1 for me and 1 for my daughter) to accomplish week 1 and then moving on!!

basically, when you go shopping purchase a few extra things. Set aside $15 a week to purchase needed items (water, canned foods, extra can opener, document holder and photocopies, flashlights, batteries, solar battery chargers, medications, bleach for water purification and cleaning, sanitation needs, candles and matches, pet supplies : water, food, leashes, licenses etc., tools for turning off water and gas, duct tape, plastic sheeting, clothes and blankets, candle heater, car emergency kit in a back pack, I could go on and on.
I made my own 40-hour emergency candles for about $30 following these directions: http://teotwawkiblog.blogspot.com/2012/02/diy-survival-candles.html
I keep meaning to write a blog about how to do this, as I work in emergency preparedness but I just haven't had time. hm...goal for 2014?
