Well I retired from the military 1 Sep and finally got my rating from the VA. At the moment it equals out to about an extra $600(tax free) a year. I have a follow-up appointment with the VA on Tuesday and I hope that will increase my rating as well but I won't have a decision on that for another couple months I'm sure.
For those that aren't familiar with the military, when you retire you can claim ailments with the VA(Veteran Affairs) for those things that came about or worsened due to military service. The VA makes the final determination of how much you're given. Of course you can appeal if you don't agree and that's what I plan on doing but for now I will take that $600 with a

Also remember just becuase we may come out of the service "healthy" doesn't mean things cant flare up as we get older. I also hope your hubby comes out with a clean bill of health but remember this is another one of his benefits he's entitled to. Just food for thought
