What a Morning

December 15th, 2009 at 05:44 pm

I meant to post this earlier but I got busy so here you go. Well as some of you may have read from my previous post; I'm currently deployed to Iraq. Every morning we have to take about a ten minute bus ride from our living quarters to our place of work. Well this morning, we were almost there and then the sirens went off for a possible incoming attack. We had to get off the bus and run into the what's called a "duck and cover" It's basically a big cement cave looking thing that provides protection. We were in there for about 5 minutes before we got the all clear.

As we emerged from our duck and cover we noticed the billowing of black smoke. Thank goodness our installation didn't get hit but it was close enough for my liking. Oh well, just another day in beautiful Iraq..NOT!!!

In this world of instant communication, we here in the US heard about this just after it happened. I sometimes stop to try to imagine the people affected. You were one...sigh. So sorry. Minutes later there was a similar event in Kabul and I set to wondering who was hurt, killed, and otherwise affected there as well. It seems endless....When do you get to come home?

I'm glad you are safe. Those close ones do create some stress. Thank goodness for sirens, huh?

Glad you are safe. I was about 10 when the (civil) war started here... the supermarket 2 blocks down from my house and the telephone box 1 block away seemed to be favorite targets for the guerilla... you could feel the house shake! and, we weren't even in the areas that were REALLY under fire!

I always pray for people who are living in war zones, whether temporarily or permanently. I will keep you in my prayers.

I pray for you all every day including my SIL who just found out yesterday he is NOT deploying to Afghanistan. He is very upset, he wants to go with his group, but his eyes are getting worse (degenerative disease). He did the Iraq tour in 2006 before being diagnosed. If you need something e-mail me at:
    r.c.brown at sbcglobal.net

I could send you a care package.

Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. Homebody, thank you so much for offering to send a care package, you would be amazed at the amount of stuff we get over here from people we don't know. I should never have to buy toothpaste again while I'm here Smile
I'm happy to report I will be coming home for about 2 weeks for the holidays. I leave this Friday!!!!

I think what you and your fellow soldiers are doing is very noble. Thank you for serving for us.

My nephew is facing a possible deployment this spring to Afghanistan but it is still up in the air.

If you need anything, drop me a line. I'd ship it as soon as possible. Or if you need a funny card or letter, I am sure our fellow bloggers or I could ensure you get something to brighten your day.

Stay safe and keep those with you safe.

    Happy Holidays!
