Good Day at The Commissary

January 26th, 2012 at 02:14 am

With the coupons I had and the ones that they were giving out at the store, I saved 21%. There were a couple high vaule coupons the lady was handing out. Save $5 on certain products, so I bought 2 Kraft Deli style turkey lunch meat. These were the 1 pound tubs going for $3.50 each. After coupon I got both for $2. I also bought 2 one pound bags of the Kraft shredded cheese. Before coupon $6, after coupon $1 for both. I love when that happens!

Retirement Income Increase

January 22nd, 2012 at 03:53 am

Well I retired from the military 1 Sep and finally got my rating from the VA. At the moment it equals out to about an extra $600(tax free) a year. I have a follow-up appointment with the VA on Tuesday and I hope that will increase my rating as well but I won't have a decision on that for another couple months I'm sure.

For those that aren't familiar with the military, when you retire you can claim ailments with the VA(Veteran Affairs) for those things that came about or worsened due to military service. The VA makes the final determination of how much you're given. Of course you can appeal if you don't agree and that's what I plan on doing but for now I will take that $600 with a Smile

Vita-mix

January 20th, 2012 at 04:30 am

Well I finally caved in and bought one. QVC had it as a today's special a couple of days ago. Also went through www.shopathome.com and will receive $15 back.

Although I'm debt free and only have a mortgage to worry about, it was still somewhat hard for me to buy it seeing how much it cost. Am I really that frugal?? In ways I am and I'm glad about it becuase it allows me to live like noone else.

I plan on using the Vitamix to help me achieve my 2012 goal of eating healthier. I guess I can pay the price now or pay the doctor later Smile

Great Way to Help Military Families Overseas

January 14th, 2012 at 09:48 pm

Many of us here use coupons to save money but what do you do with the ones that expire or don't use. Now you can adopt a military base overseas to send them to. Seeing how I'm a veteran and couponer, I jumped all over this and adopted a base in Germany I was once stationed at. Visit www.ocpnet.org! Just another great, small way to support our troops!

My first Co-op Basket!

January 7th, 2012 at 07:50 pm

If you're like me, you probably never heard of www.bountifulbaskets.org. I heard about it on another forum I visit. I figured since I wanted to start eating healthier for 2012 then I would give it a try. You get about $50 worth of fruits and veggies for $15.

Today I got tomatoes, grapes, apples, brocoli, tangerines, bananas, radishes, english cucumber, spinach, 3 lb bag of pears. They also have organic boxes for $10 more and every week they have certain add-ons like 5 loaves of bread for $10.
7 doz tortillas for $10. They have granola and cookies and bulk produce for canning.

Anyway it's a co-op so it's all volunteer and I just wanted to share. You will have to visit their site to see if it's in your area.

Decluttering Pays Off Again

January 6th, 2012 at 10:04 pm

While cleaning out an old back pack, I found a necklace that I had bought from Kohls. It still had the tags and the receipt was in there too. I remember my intentions were to return it but I never did until today. $9 snowflake!

Near Free 2012 Christmas

January 4th, 2012 at 02:33 am

Two websites that I'm using to help me with my challenge is Ebates and ShoppingAtHome. Both pay you cashback for doing shopping at stores online that you normally use anyway. I normally check both before deciding which one to go with. For example as of now Ebates is paying 12% for drugstore.com orders while ShopatHome pays 10%.

Might as well get free money for shopping online anyway. You can check out both on my side bar.

Dont Underestimate the 99 cent Stores

January 3rd, 2012 at 10:30 pm

I got blackberries, strawberries, and bananas for 99 cents each. I also got some Christmas gift boxes that were marked down to 39 cents. There's two in each box.

I noticed that they also had the big tubs of organic spinach or mixed greens that are normally expensive elsewhere for 99 cents.

So don't bypass your local 99 cents store, there's savings to be had!!
