Checking In

July 19th, 2013 at 03:25 am

I just wanted to drop in and give an update since I've been MIA since May. I have been reading posts but just not updating for whatever reason.School is still keeping me busy but it's going great so far. I'm now in my second course after receiving an A in my first so I'm happy about that.

Financially everything is going smoothly but I haven't been as intense with my snowflaking until lately. Following the steps of Creditcardfree, I've been taking advantage of some credit card offers. I just received my BOA Visa which gives $200 bonus after spending only $500 in 3 months. I activated the card today and immediately paid my homeowners insurance renewal which was $700 so now I will just sit back and wait on the bonus to hit. The one thing that I also like about this card is that if I cash in my rewards into my BOA checking account, then I get an additional 10% bonus, so that bonus will be at least $220 if not more since I will probably charge more because of that feature.

I also applied for the Southwest card and as soon as I get that, I will charge my tuition to it which will take care of that requirement. One question I do have for those that has been doing this longer than me, do you close the accounts after the bonus pays so that you don't have to pay the annual fee if there is one?

I always cancel before a 'waived' fee is incurred. The Southwest card does have an annual fee that likely will be charged right away. Others have indicated they often refund the fee either in whole or prorated when you cancel. I'll let you know how it works for us. We are still waiting on the card. Do you have a plan with your cc rewards?

Everything will go towards the 52 week snowflake challenge which will ultimately be split between extra on the mortgage and others I haven't decided yet.
