USAA & Swagbucks

February 15th, 2012 at 02:31 am

I got a call today from USAA fraud dept stating there had been a hold placed on my card due to strange activity. It looks like someone got a hold of my debit card number online and was trying to buy bus tickets. All of this supposedly happened around the middle of last month so of course I asked why was I just being notified a month later but they didn't have a answer for that. I guess I would have known if I used my debit card but that account is mainly used for saving my snowflakes every month. Oh well, at least the little funds I have are safe. They will be sending me another card within the next few days.

On another note, a poster on the Dave Ramsey forum stated that one of the Amazon giftcards she ordered was somehow stolen from her account. She stated she never received an email stating it had posted but when she checked and tried to add it to her Amazon account, it stated it had already been used and she knows she hadn't added it. Reading her post made me get off my butt and apply the cards I had just sitting there to my account. I never heard of this happening before but I guess it does. You might want to apply your cards to your account if u haven't already!

I usually add my gift cards right away, but I have not this time, since I didn't want them used towards anything until Christmas. I could just apply them and then when I use them save the cash.

That is odd about the late call from USAA. Nice to call, but why so late?

Hey- I read that post as well and the person updated to add that it was a mistake & she HAD posted the code to her own account. I haven't had any issues, but I also do always put the codes in as soon as they come in.

PER the TMM Blog post - "EDITED: DH called and said we posted this on Jan 24th. So I guess I must have forgotten to delete the other email. Just wanted to let you know Amazon did a good job and tracked it by the number. So it was my mistake."

CCF - You can always apply the gift codes to your Amazon account and not use them until you want to use them. There is a way to change the settings to tell them how you want to pay for certain things.

More than the gift card codes being used before I get to them, I also worry about being deactivated for whatever reason and losing the cards that way ... so I always immediately apply them to my account.

USAA is really on top of things, usually... I wonder why it took so long for that activity to lead to a call? We have them for our insurance and banking, and we have been really pleased while we are living overseas. At least they contacted you, though...
